Sheathing completed

Right on schedule, we finished up the last bit of sheathing that we can do before the roof trusses are set in place. With just a bit more internal bracing, we’ll be ready for the hired crew to put the trusses in place starting on Wednesday. We had hoped to have the trusses ready by Monday, but the truss company has been running behind due to high demand lately. The earliest they can have our trusses ready will be Tuesday afternoon.

Using cargo straps and the bumper of the dually, Oz was able to get all the walls pulled into plumb before placing sheathing on the framework. We are very happy with the nice, straight walls on the house. It is really taking shape. Here are a few photos of the progress:

  • Looks good. For some reason I thought you were doing a second floor. Trusses and sheeting should only take a week or so. Looks like you guys may be in by Christmas.
Do you plan on trimming the windows on the inside. I used hemlock for mine that matched my floor trim. Took a few weeks but sure turned out nice. There now that I’ve given some advice I feel complete. (ever notice how everyone wants to help, from a distance)
Happy building, just keep reminding yourself “this will all be done soon”.

Thanks, Steve. We only have a second floor above the garage… We do hope to be in the house by Christmas… keeping our fingers crossed.

We are planning to use vinyl windows and no wood trim around them. Out here the sheet rock is often installed with the rounded corners — sort of fits in with the territorial style of the house. I’ll bet that hemlock is really very nice, though.

We are planning to do stained concrete floors, so will have some posts about that eventually, too. We have friends who have done it and will give us more advice. We appreciate all the advice, so keep it coming!
